New Day Light Saving Time - DST

To help you determine to which extent your systems will be affected by the new DST, we’re publishing below a checklist that should address most of the situations at our customers. But first, a recap of the new DST:

DST will start 2nd Sunday of March, 03/11/2007

DST will end 1st Sunday of November, 11/04/07

Calendars, scheduling applications and other software that uses date and time calculations are affected by this change.

More specifically, the following Microsoft systems and applications will need to be updated:

  • Microsoft Windows

  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services

  • Microsoft Exchange Server

  • Microsoft Office Outlook

  • Microsoft SQL Server Notification Services

  • Microsoft Entourage

If you’re running Windows XP SP2 or Windows 2003 server SP1, you’ll need to download and install Microsoft’s patch KB931836 This can be done through Windows Update, or call us and we’ll provide the necessary assistance.

If you’re running Windows 2000 software or earlier versions, either server of workstation, you’ll need to obtain support from your regular IT department or our office to have a fix developed and applied to your systems. Microsoft no longer supports these versions and has not made a patch available.

Your Sage applications will not be affected as long as you undertake the steps described above to adjust all your computers.

Meetings scheduled in March 11 - April 1 and October 28 - November 4, 2007

We recommend that you use extra caution when scheduling meetings and appointments in the periods between March 11, 2007 to April 1, 2007 and October 28, 2007 to November 4, 2007. A simple method to ensure that all participants secure the right time on their calendars is to include the time of the meeting in the subject line or body of your email requests for meetings. Yet another precaution would be to print your calendars for those time periods prior to applying the patches, and again once the patches have been applied, and verify the accuracy of the adjustments.

Our offices are available to assist with any of the above situations, and we’d encourage you to book time with us as quickly as possible to avoid possible scheduling misunderstandings around those dates.

Growing companies and accounting software are like growing children and clothing - suddenly the pants legs are too short and the waist is too tight. What are the signs that your financial applications are starting to bind? How do you assess what packages will provide the fit you need and can handle your company's continued growth? Guest speaker Bruce T. Andersen has dealt with these questions from the inside and outside of business' operations. He will discuss these issues with Robert Scott, Editor of Accounting Technology, and talk about the signs that a company has outgrown its critical applications, and how to make the process of selecting the replacement easier.
